Commercial Van Insurance

Keep your business running smoothly with Van Insurance

What’s covered?

Three great reasons to choose Admiral Commercial Van Insurance

Our Commercial Van Insurance is vital to make sure your business keeps running without a hitch, should the worst happen.

5 Star rated cover

Our Admiral, Gold and Platinum comprehensive cover have Defaqto’s highest rating.

All types of Van

Small, transit and vans up to 3.5 tonnes - we cover them all.

Flexible insurance

Choose from comprehensive, Third Party Fire & Theft or Third Party Only cover.

What cover do I need?

You have four types of cover to choose from:

Social

Social is perfect for anyone using their van for personal trips and not for commuting. If you use a van for leisure activities requiring a bit more space or equipment – like fishing or surfing, for example – this category of cover is ideal.

Social and Commuting

If you need cover for driving to one place of work as well as leisure trips, Social and Commuting is the category you need.

Own Goods

If you use your van for business purposes, Own Goods is the category for you. Builders, plumbers and carpenters are all examples of tradesmen who might need this category.

If you need to transport tools and stock, you may need our Vehicle Contents Cover policy upgrade (formerly known as Goods and Tools). This higher level of contents insurance specifically covers the contents of your van to recover costs if something is damaged or stolen.

Carriage of goods for hire and reward

Carriage of goods for hire and reward covers anyone using their van to deliver third party goods – so it’s ideal for furniture removers and couriers.

Levels of Commercial Van Insurance cover

Next, you’ll need to decide what level of cover you want for your business van insurance:

Comprehensive

This is the highest level of cover. It includes Third Party, Fire & Theft and pays out for van repairs or a replacement if it’s damaged maliciously or in an accident.

If you feel like you don’t need Comprehensive cover, Third Party, Fire & Theft or Third Party Only are other options that might suit.

Third Party, Fire & Theft

Third Party, Fire & Theft protects your van from damage caused by fire or theft only – it won’t pay out if your van's damaged in another way such as a crash. If you're involved in an incident, however, Admiral will pay out to the other driver.

Third Party Only

This is the minimum level of cover required by law and protects you if you damage someone's property or injure them while driving. Third Party Only cover also protects any passengers if they’re injured in your van, but it won’t pay out if your van’s stolen or damaged in a fire.

Insurance for couriers

As a courier, your job is to be on the road making deliveries for a large part of the day.

If you're a courier, this means you'll need to choose Carriage of Goods for Hire and Reward. It's a type of commercial van insurance which covers you and your van when making deliveries.

It's specifically for anyone who delivers third-party goods in their van, meaning it's great for people like furniture removers and food deliverers.

Bonus Match

New van replacement

Comprehensive van insurance policies sold from the 1st of February 2019 include Vehicle Replacement cover as standard.

That means we may be able to replace your van with one of the same make, model and specification if it's:

  • stolen and can't be recovered, or
  • damaged and covered by your policy, and the cost of repair is more than 59% of the current UK list price (including VAT)

This is so long as your van is 12 months old or less, and you're the first registered keeper of it.

We need authorisation from anyone else who has an interest in your van before we can offer this benefit.

If we settle a claim in this way, the lost or damaged van then becomes our property.

What isn't covered:

  • If you don't have the original purchase invoice for the van
  • Any van that wasn't supplied as new in the UK
  • Any van bought under a finance or lease agreement where ownership doesn't pass on to you
  • Any vans sold as 'ex demonstrators' and 'nearly new'
  • Campervans and motorhomes

If you don't want us to replace your van or a van of the same make, model and specification isn't available in the UK, the most we'll pay is the market value at the time of loss (minus the excess you need to pay).
