5 Star Van Insurance from Admiral
5 Star rated comprehensive Van Insurance
Our comprehensive cover has Defaqto's highest 5 Star rating.
Finding a van that suits your needs exactly isn’t always possible, and you’ll sometimes need to modify it to make it right for you.
Whether you want to remodel the interior to make the perfect campervan for weekends away or you need to install shelving and other equipment to make your commercial van work for you, there are countless possibilities.
To make sure your modified van is covered by your insurance and your modifications don’t invalidate your policy, you’ll need to tell us about any changes you make, both now and in the future.
But bear in mind that although we insure modified vans, the actual modifications themselves aren’t covered by your policy.
Take a look at our guide for more information on van driving for beginners.

If you’re planning to convert your van into a campervan, take a look at the helpful tips in our guide before you start ripping out the seats: Converting your van into a campervan.
There are four types of cover to choose from depending on what you use your modified van for:
If you’ve converted a van to a campervan, you may just need Social or Social and Commuting. If you’ve modified your van to suit a trade, Own Goods or Carriage of goods for hire and reward might suit better.
To help you make your decision, let’s take a closer look.
Social is perfect for anyone using their pick-up for personal trips and not for commuting. If you use your pick-up for leisure activities requiring a bit more space or equipment – like fishing or surfing, for example – this category of cover is ideal.
If you need cover for driving to one place of work as well as leisure trips, Social and Commuting is the category you need.
If you use your van for business purposes, our Own Goods category might be best. Builders, plumbers and carpenters are all examples of tradesmen who might need this category.
If you need to transport tools and stock, you may need our Vehicle Contents Cover policy upgrade (formerly known as Goods and Tools). This higher level of contents insurance specifically covers the contents of your van if they’re damaged or stolen.
Carriage of goods for hire and reward covers anyone using their van to deliver third party goods, making it ideal for furniture removers and couriers.
Next, you’ll need to decide what level of cover you want:
This is the highest level of cover. It includes Third Party, Fire & Theft and pays out for van repairs or a replacement if it’s damaged maliciously or in an accident.
If you feel like you don’t need Comprehensive cover, Third Party, Fire & Theft or Third Party Only are other options that might suit.
Third Party, Fire & Theft protects your van from damage caused by fire or theft only – it won’t pay out if your van's damaged in another way such as a crash. If you're involved in an incident, however, Admiral will pay out to the other driver.
This is the minimum level of cover required by law and protects you if you damage someone's property or injure them while driving. Third Party Only cover also protects any passengers if they’re injured in your van, but it won’t pay out if your van’s stolen or damaged in a fire.
Our comprehensive van insurance includes all this as standard:
Policyholders are eligible for the repair and replacement of windscreens (excess applies).
Use of a courtesy van while your van is being repaired at an Admiral approved garage.
Up to 90 days' cover in Europe so you can enjoy a driving holiday in France without having to arrange extra cover.
